Fun Christmas DIYs Kids Will Love to Make

December 9, 2019

The holidays are all about spending time with the people you love the most. And what better way to spend quality time with your kids than to make some crafts together? To help you bond with your kids this holiday season and get them in the Christmas spirit, we’ve put together this list of five festive DIY projects. These crafts are fun, simple, affordable, and great for all ages. These projects will allow your kids to express their creativity, and as an added bonus, they make great gifts for friends and relatives!

Clothespin Snowflake Ornaments

Did you know that you can make beautiful, iridescent snowflake ornaments out of clothespins? They’ll add a gorgeous hint of sparkle to your tree, and best of all, they’re easy to make. All you need to do is take the springs out of six clothespins and glue the sides of each clothespin together. Then you can arrange them in a snowflake formation, use a few dabs of glue to secure them, and give them to your kids to decorate.

To keep the ornaments classic, give your kids white paint and silver glitter to decorate with, or let them get creative with lots of different colored paints and glitter. Either way, your kids will have lots of fun decorating these ornaments and will be excited and proud to hang them on the tree!

Peppermint Soap

Making homemade soap sounds intimidating, but this recipe for peppermint soap couldn’t be easier! It only takes a few minutes to make and requires just four ingredients—shea butter soap base, peppermint essential oil, soap molds, and red soap colorant.

The first step is to melt your soap base so you can pour it into the molds. You can do this over a double boiler or in the microwave. Once it’s ready, pour the soap base into the molds and have your kids squeeze a few drops of colorant into it. Grab a toothpick and let your kids have fun swirling and mixing the red colorant with the white soap base to create beautiful designs.

After your kids are happy with the patterns they’ve made, pop the soap into the fridge for 15 minutes to harden. If you’re planning on giving the finished bars of soap as gifts, have your kids help you gift wrap them.

Snow Slime

Slime is all the rage these days! It’s similar to Play-Doh and can be twisted, squeezed, and formed into all kinds of shapes. While you can purchase slime at toy stores, making it with your kids is so much more fun.

This DIY slime recipe looks a lot like snow, so it’s perfect for the holidays. It requires just five ingredients—shaving cream, baking soda, white glue, poly-fil micro beads, and saline solution. All you’ll need to do is mix these ingredients together, so this DIY is super simple and appropriate for kids of all ages.

This DIY snow globe glows under blacklights and will provide hours of entertainment for your kids! All you need to do to make it is pour completely flat tonic water into a glass jar. Easy, right?

To personalize the snow globe, have your kids glue plastic figurines and other decorations to the snow globe’s lid. You can even add glitter to the tonic water to make the snow globe extra sparkly and shiny under the blacklights!

We hope that this post has given you ideas of crafts that you can make with your kids to bond with them and get them excited about the holidays. If you make any of these crafts, take some pictures of them and share them with us on social media so we can see how they turned out!
